9-1-1 Youth Heroes

Eight youth and six 9-1-1 dispatchers were honored during the 2009 National 9-1-1 Heroes Award Ceremony by 9-1-1 for Kids® on Sunday, June 7 at 6:00pm, at the NENA Conference and Trade Show in the Main Ballroom at the Fort Worth Convention Center.

 

The 9-1-1 Local Heroes® Medal of Honor, is bestowed upon a youngster who successfully called 9-1-1 and the 9-1-1 dispatcher/call taker who has distinguished himself/herself by gallantry and intrepidity processed crisis 9-1-1 call, and dispatched the appropriate emergency response resulting in: lives saved; fires prevented or stopped; and crimes halted or curtailed.


The heroes were nominated by public safety answering points (PSAPs or 9-1-1 dispatch centers). The hero called 9-1-1 and provided the dispatcher with the necessary information to route emergency personnel (police, fire department or medical emergency response). The 9-1-1 Heroes® Awards were established in 1999.
