In just the 2 months since May 2014, MedStar has responded to 6 drowning/near-drowning incidents. Of these, 3 were fatal and 2 involved children under 8. Every day, about ten people die from unintentional drowning. Of these, two are children aged 14 or younger.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning ranks fifth among the leading causes of unintentional injury death in the United States. Nationally, about one in five people who die from drowning are children 14 and younger.
Let's work together to reverse this trend!
